William Gregson has won the under 11s Blackpool Junior Open.
Ten-year old William Gregson has secured his first championship, winning the boys under 11s at the Blackpool Junior Open this week.
He won through against brothers Luca and Leo Ponchone, both 3-1 and narrowly lost to Nicole Scott - but that was enough to secure the boys event and his first tournament trophy.
William had already competed in several junior open tournaments before his win this weekend in Blackpool, gaining significant experience against older players from Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. He trains in both Stockport and Warrington and is one of the region's top table tennis prospects.
William started playing table tennis aged eight at Stockport Table Tennis Academy. The following season he made his league debut in the Manchester League, it's youngest ever player. He plays for Stockport in the National Cadet League and has also completed a season for Warrington in the National Junior League.
At the end of the 2012-13 season, William qualified 1st in the North West U11s and 4th in the North West U12s to earn a place at the National finals in June 2013.
